model zero is an acoustic loudspeaker that combines a sophisticated electroacoustic project with the luthier's art.
Leaving the logic of the "stereo system", too often considered just a household appliance, and approaching the interior design and shared spaces, model zero is intended as a specific element for the sound diffusion, as a lamp is for the light.
The soul of model zero is a soundboard made of resonant spruce from the Fiemme Valley. The design, son of the Italian functionalism, meets a technological electroacoustic patented project that puts this "natural membrane" into vibration by means of an analogic signal controlled by a special amplifier. The handmade soundboard has a diameter of 70 cm and its thicknesses range from 3 to 6 mm; the crowning is granted by the ribs glued on the back. The soundboard is suspended between two brass clamps tied up to the structure, which is made of the same material and hand-burnished.
model zero diffuses the sound in a surrounding mode, avoiding the directional effect of the traditional loudspeakers. The environment becomes a liquid concept and the sound a diffused substance, a pervading and intrinsic element. Its sound efficiency has an ideal performance within a listening range up to 150 sqm; the project also foresees the use of several copies to cover wider areas. The sound pressure at 1 mt is of 82 dBa (with peaks of 96 dBa), the frequency response in the interval is 60 Hz – 18 KHz.
The high sensitivity of the membrane allows a detailed listening of each instrument even at a very low volume.
The special amplifier for the control of model zero is a model in class D, 50 W, that can be compared with the sound power of a traditional device with 130 – 150 W.
model zero is produced in two versions, equipped with amplification integrated into the base or fitted in an external module. The system is driven by its special remote control and it can receive a digital signal via Bluetooth 5.0 or the analogue one via cable.
The violinmaker touches the wood, feels its characteristics and gives voice to it. Working on the thicknesses, that vary in different points, on its natural bending and on the purfling, the artist shapes it into a violin, a guitar or a cello. As luthier of the modern age, I touch the well-seasoned resonant spruce, reading inside its grain the same characteristics intended by the skilled masters to realize an outstanding instrument. I examine it and I check the acoustic response, I measure its flexion and thereafter I decide the thickness of the different areas generating the high, low and medium frequencies. I complete the trim with the purfling, as the violinmaker does. The handcrafted vibrating natural membrane perfectly responds to the laws of acoustics as it is put into vibration by special exciters coupled with the soundboard in precise points, fixed by the technical project of this instrument. Inside model zero you find the whole story of the Italian lutherie: it is hand-carved as a violin. The wood is the same and the result is consistent with the musical expression arising from the string instruments. model zero hides harps, violins, Ghironda, guitars, cellos. Hours of workshop and of handwork are added to the skill of the good violinmaker who can extract the music from the wood. Each model zero is a numbered and unique piece, exactly like a violin. But you don't need the violinist: just press "play" on the remote control to enjoy a live concert.
